Exceeding the Bee Space
Session 3
The Bee Space
The effect of exceeding the Bee Space
Gaps wider than 8mm will be utilised by the bees for building extra comb, mostly for drone cells, but also for honey.
Exceeding the bee space
Taking off a Super when the gap is bigger than the Bee Space often results in ripping apart combs with honey and drone brood.
To minimise the number of bees getting squashed, before stacking the super back on again this "Burr comb" has to be removed, using the hive tool, from top of these frames and from underneath the frames in the super that was taken off.
