Methods of Swarm Control

You will come across several suggested methods of swarm control and prevention, some work, some don’t, some are questionable.

Removing all queen cells from the hive might postpone swarming by a few days or weeks; potentially you end up with a swarm leaving half the colony behind without any queen cells or eggs.

Clipping the wings of the queen does not rule out the swarming urge; you might end up with a queenless swarm.

Keep it close to nature!

A successful method to control swarming is to create an “artificial swarm”; creating a swarm under your control rather than leaving it to the bees.
