Unmanaged Swarms
Session 5
Unmanaged Swarms
An undesirable side effect of Beekeeping
If, since the introduction of European Honeybees to Australia, control and prevention of bee swarms would have been without fail, we would not have any ferral bee colonies.
Leading to the conclusion: Prevention and control of Honeybee swarms is not and never has been working reliably.
1. Prevent/control swarming of your own bee colonies.2. If possible, capture bee swarms in your neighbourhood; within 1 km.
For peace of mind with your neighbours, also capture those swarms which are not or cannot possibly be yours.
Be aware: An apiary will attract bee swarms out of the neighbourhood in search for a new home.
