When not to open the Beehive
When possible, avoid opening the hive when windy, in the rain, with a thunderstorm approaching or during a thunderstorm.
Do not lift out brood frames when windy, as a cold breeze can be fatal to young brood.
Opening the hive whilst your neighbours are having a children’s birthday party or a BBQ in their backyard is probably not a smart choice.
When, after lifting the hive lid, the bees are raising their abdomen and fanning with their wings it is best to close the lid and come back when they are in a better mood.
